Huh, didn't know about this. The description I read online says a bunch of "high end" speakers in the Victoria Theater, composers "shaping" the sound live with the audience sitting in the dark. This sounds very much like what they do over at the Audium every weekend. The Audium Audium at Bush and Franklin streets in SF might be a good topic for a review by some Encyclotronician... I'd review it myself, but I haven't been there in at least 25 years... I used to go all the time back in the 1970's/early 1980's.
Also, regards this venue, the Victoria Theater in the SF Mission District.. it was the main venue (among many) during the Inter Dada Festival in 1984. -Ing (a TAPE MUSIC project that did live Frippertronics-style loop compositions) played it's final gig there (an affair filled with all sorts of challenges which had some bad effects on the performance, but which went off with considerable audience support nonetheless). Audio documented here in beautiful Lo Fi:
They pack that little hall with 25+ speakers mounted all around and above and play stuff in 16 channels with the lights turned off. Its totally tantalizing to the ears and brain. I always get the festival pass and go to all of them if I have the energy.
Audium is still around. I do plan to check it out one day, and most certainly will post about my experience.
Cool, you mentioned that before. I will check it out for sure. I love it when these roads traveled, cross paths.
