Akai Professional AX60 Programmable Polyphonic Synthesizer

   0 reviews  -  2196 views

The AX60 is a 6 voice analog synthesizer with the ability to be bitimbral meaning it's keyboard could be split to produce two timbres at once.

It also features a healthy assortment of faders for sound shaping and is a straightforward programming instrument once you learn your way around it. LED lights onboard the front panel help to assist the user with sound editing. It uses the same Curtis chips found in some of Sequential Circuits instruments of the same era.

The unit was also manufactured to optionally use Akai's other products produced at the time such as their early samplers like the S612 and S700. the instrument had voice inputs built in for using the samplers.

The architecture is very robust with pulse width modulation available for all 4 waveforms and a noise generator is also included. The synth holds 64 programs in memory and features pitch and modulation wheels for interaction with the sound as well as pedal inputs, stereo outputs, and MIDI.

Effects were also available such as chorus and a Bucket Brigade delay unit.
