Akai Professional AX80 Programmable Polyphonic Synthesizer

   (0 reviews)

Akai launched the AX80 Programmable Polyphonic Synthesizer in 1984. It features 8 voices with two oscillators per voice with sawtooth or square waveforms that can be played up to 4 octaves semitones apart.

The instrument only has1 data entry knob for editing parameters that you select from various buttons across the front panel. There are also 5 fluorescent screens that indicate where you are in the editing process.

The back panel also was remarkable for it's downward slant and welcome set of optional features. The AX80 was initially envisioned as part of a larger music system for the studio that Akai also included their samplers being part of it. The AX80 began the first of instruments to feature built in dedicated inputs for using the S612, S700, MG1212 Recorder, or, MR16 Drum Machine.

The unit has 61 keys and velocity sensitivity. The case is plastic with Tolex covering the end caps.
