The Farfisa Polychrome is a polyphonic ensemble/string combo type of synthesizer. It features 61 keys with velocity sensitivity. It has 4 sections of strings, organ, vocal and percussive instruments. It is polyphonic by way of Divide-Down synthesis technology and a white noise circuit. the player can create different sounds by removing or adding different layers. Splits are possible using two sounds.

The string section offers a 2 stage envelope and single filter control for brightness ie. brilliance. The chorus vocal section has 3 presets and one custom mode and double button for a heavier chorus vocal effect. The Percussive section offers 6 preset sounds with piano, harpsichord, honkytonk, clavichord, electric guitar and classic guitar. the ensemble section has 3 presets with brass, reed and accordion witbh an A/S envelope and brilliance for filter control

The instrument has a built in phase shifter effect that can be used on all the sections except the chorus section..However the chorus section has a dedicated optional audio output for routing to an effect or processor along with the main audio output.

There is also an audio input with with a gain knob for external gear to process through the Polychrome. Additionally there is a 5 pin DIN input for a olume swell pedal and headphone jack. Farfisa also offered an optional stand and music stand for the Polychrome.
