The Ionic Performer is a 49 key analog synthesizer based on the VCS3 synthesizer. Instead of using a pin matrix it uses rectangular push button switches for making settings. There are two main oscillators with sine,/triangle and square/triangle and one square with an extended low range. The shape (duty cycle) is adjustable as is the relative level of the waveform pairs. There is also an external input level control for a line or microphone signal as a source as well as white noise for a source for oscillator input.

Each source can be modified by an envelope, ring modulator, filter, and reverb, and be routed to either or both output amps directly. Note that the filter could also be a source, as well as the keyboard oscillator, external inputs, and white noise. To make sure the player knew which oscillators were in use, there are four green lights. One for the oscillators and one for any other source.

The unit also has a built in X/Y axis controller using 4 sliders and a Z control with two knobs and a trapezoid knob controller used for the envelope control and an optional manual envelope trigger button. The instrument features a built in case with lid and spring loaded legs that folded into the casting. It has stereo line outputs and a stereo headphone output as well as line and mic inputs. It also offers trigger inputs for external control. There is also a built in speaker inside which could be turned off.
