PAIA 4700/S

   0 reviews  -  1933 views

Released in 1981 with much improved features over their earlier 2700 series synthesizers, PAIA offered a complete modular synthesizer for half the price of more popular brands of the era. The PAIA 4700/S series of synthesizers offered a more stable oscillator and improved filter among other features. The modules were housed in the 4761 heavy duty roadworthy winged case. They were also designed to be versatile such as in a studio setting for rearranging in a building block fashion to suit the needs of the musician. The included the 4712 reverb effect module to add further dimension and space to the sound which allows for the mixing of two signals and post mixing of with the processed sound. It also has a pop free switch for turning off the effect when needed.

    Included modules are:

    - 4712 Reverb
    - 4710 Balanced Modulator
    - 4730 VCF
    - 4711 Mixer
    - 4740 Envelope Generator
    - 4720 VCO
    - 4740 Envelope Generator
    - 4761 Wing
    - 4771 Regulated Power
    - 4710 Balanced Modulator
    - 4780 Sequencer
    - 4761 Wing
    - 4720 VCO
    - 4720 VCO
    - Control Oscillator

As another addition to the kit, PAIA also made the 4782 self contained keyboard controller with 3 octaves and selectable control voltage with variable tuning, sample and hold, and variable glide circuitry. The controller is housed in a heavy duty road worthy case.

The 4700/S is an assortment of modules which has the capabilities for competing with commercial systems selling for several times the price. In fact, there are very few, if any, synthesizers in the "under $2000" bracket that include a sequencer as a standard function. Also, many low cost filters provide only low pass output, or a choice of low pass or band pass. Rarely do you see three simultaneous filter outputs available, The module complement of the 4700/S is such that the sequencer can control a full synthesizer by itself, and you still have a full array of modules for use with the keyboard.
